Supplies to Kroo Bay, Freetown, Sierra Leone

On our initial stop at Kroo Bay during our “Salone Mission 2008” we brought along some needles and syringes. We did this because I had seen a BBC Journal of the medical staff of Kroo Bay Clinic and they made comment that they had no needles, no syringes to care for the sick. We had more than enough for the Kabala hospital we are supporting and decided to share a bit with Kroo Bay Clinic.

After witnessing the great need and the struggle of the staff of their Clinic to provide care to its patients, NHA went back to St. Laurence House, re-sorted our supplies and brought more to this clinic.

This was the morning before the horrible rain storm that killed 10 people in Kroo Bay. It devastated the area.

St Laurence House family visits Marie Barrie

James, Kadijah, Lucy, Ann Marie and little Roo all went over to check on Pa Barrie’s wife, Marie on Friday in Freetown. They received some sad news that Pa Barrie, he had went to Guinea to collect his belongings, had fallen ill in Guinea. Please keep this holy man in your prayers. We are praying him good health so that he may return to his family in Freetown. A blog post about him will be coming forth soon.

Loading up the car; Next stop KROO BAY

After meeting Adama, a nurse at Kroo Bay and the Community Health Coordinator, Gibrilla Timbo, and seeing the tremendous amount of need in Kroo Bay, we loaded up more medical supplies and went back, yet again to Kroo Bay.

NHA adds assisting Photographer

Nazareth House Apostolate introduces Salu Bangura as an assisting photographer to James. He will help James document the work and needs.

A relationship between Salu, his family and NHA began with the unfortunate passing of his little daughter, Isha a few years ago. By the time we found out of her injuries, infection had set in and she died of burns after falling into boiling water.

Salu makes his living as a photographer. We’ve noticed his work and decided to assist him by buying him a small digital camera. This will enable him to support himself and family as well as benefit NHA with photographs of needs, etc.

He lives with his wife and daughter, Salma. They are expecting a new addition to the family at any time. Labor pains have begun and we are waiting for the delivery.

Once we gave the camera to Salu, he immediately set out to work with it. His pictures of the flood capture some of the most compelling sights I have witnessed in some time.

You can find his pictures, as well as others of Kroo Bay from Nazareth House on the following Photo Web Album http://picasaweb.google.com/Salone.news/KrooBay#. Cut and paste or type into your browser to see these sad sad photos.
