Pa Barrie, please pray for him

Pa Barrie is one of the best friends of Fr. Seraphim. He is an extremely holy man He lives in Freetown but due to an illness had been in Guinea until he heard that Fr. Seraphim was in Freetown. Despite his illness, despite the terrible traveling conditions between the two countries, Pa Barrie hastened to Freetown to see Father Seraphim. The picture above captured the respect and love between these two religious men as they embraced upon seeing each other again after a long time.

Pa Barrie is Muslim and prays without ceasing the Name of God for peace, love and unity.

After meeting with Father Seraphim in Freetown, he returned to Guinea to gather his belongings to return permanently back in Sierra Leone. However, after arriving back in Guinea he became very ill and is unable to speak. His daughter left for Guinea this week, to see how best to help him and was very discouraged with the condition she found him in. He is gravely ill. Please, please keep him in your prayers!!!!!!

Thank you.

James is making decisions as to what is best for Pa Barrie and what journeys should be made (Bringing his wife to him, etc. ) Keep all of this in your hearts and prayers.

This morning at Nazareth House Apostolate, Louisville we woke up to heavy fog. The pictures above are of Fr. Seraphim as he prays the Rosary Path around the Grotto of Our Lady of Nazareth.

NHA makes life difficult for Malaria Mosquitoes…

Through your generosity and compassion, NHA was able to provide Mosquito Bed Netting for all of the families of the students at NHA Kabala School, for many families in Freetown, and for several families along the road from Freetown to Kabala. It was very exciting to be able actually place these nets into the hands of those who desperately need them and to those who will actually use them for their purpose: to help stop the spread of malaria! As I said before, unfortunately we had to purchase these bednets at $8 per net! This was a very worthwhile expenditure and we didn’t mind to do it. What we did mind, was finding out after we opened the box full of nets, that these bednets were clearly marked “NOT FOR RESALE” as they were gifts to the people of Sierra Leone from other Aid Organizations. They were intended to be distributed to those so vulnerable to malaria, but instead were hoarded and resold. At least, …at least, NHA was able to put these nets over the beds of families for which they were intended…and this is a blessing.

Pa Foday has assured us that he will check in on all the families that received bednets at the school and see that they are being used properly. We thank him for this and appreciate his time given to assure that malaria mosquitoes attempt at reaching the children is hampered.

Good Bye Ramada’s! We will miss you!

Its always hard to say goodbye, today we say goodbye to some of the best meals we’ve had in Sierra Leone, we say goodbye to some of our most relaxing times by the beach. There were times when we were so tired from working in Freetown, dealing with frustrations, etc. that Ramada’s was our little niche of peace. A place to recoup and prepare for the next day.

With goodbyes, there is always a new beginning… and I wish Ramatu, the owner of “Ramada’s” and her husband, the best of everything in whatever lies ahead. We all mourn the loss of such an endearing establishment, it has been a friend.

Shoreline, Sand, Former Beach Restaurants, Sunsets, New Construction of Freetown beaches as well as demolished beach bars can be seen in “Beaches of Freetown” link on right side bar of this blog. All photos are exclusive property of NHA.
