What about Bob+? A NHA tribute to a great friend & priest to all!

The details of Fr. Bob Haux’s passing are yet to be learned, however, the details of his life are quite clear. He is a man of many talents and he wears many hats. Yet, most of all he is a priest, an old school priest, one full of dedication and honesty: A shepherd who loves his flock. He has an expanded flock, some in the pews, some at the restaurant, some in his socializing, some within his brother policemen, everywhere and at all times, Bob+ shepherds his many flocks.

Last Sunday (November 9) , Fr. Seraphim and I joined Fr. Bob at his parish in West Point, Georgia.

Through Fr. Bob+, St. Andrew’s parish has jumped in full force to support Nazareth House Apostolate in its work in Sierra Leone. They own the mission, it is THEIR mission, their work. They are a part of Nazareth House and Nazareth House is a part of them. Photos of the Parish Hall and Kitchen “Bulletin Boards” at St. Andrews:

Fr. Bob loved James and Kadijah in Sierra Leone and they loved him. Though they never personally met, they knew each other well. St. Laurence House is officially shut down in mourning for the next 3 days in honor of their beloved friend. The last Sunday we were in Freetown, Fr. Seraphim preached the Sermon that Fr. Bob had prepared so that he could feed his people from afar. It was that Sermon that led 3 people to Baptism into Christianity after hearing it! James has much to say about Fr. Bob and I will let him speak in his own post later. Without any flash, quietly hidden, Fr. Bob became a hero in Sierra Leone. .

As we left last Sunday, Fr. Bob loaded us up with music he had put on a cd for us so that we’d have it to listen while traveling. He gave us an icon that he had written (painted) at age 17 and a folder full of his writings, etc for us to look over. We will cherish these items for ever.

Pictures say a 1000 words, the ones on this blog post today show the love Fr. Bob gives and the love we all have for him. You cannot think about Bob+, without thinking of love. He gives so much. .

He is always a friend… always has your back…. always a priest…always ready to love….always ready with a helping hand..

In Memory of Father Robert Haux, our beloved friend and priest! A Wonderful Night at Sammy D’s…

Fr. Bob Haux and his wife, the lovely Mz Su

As I left St. Andrew’s Church in West Point, Georgia, last Sunday, November 9th, I promised my dear friend, Father Bob Haux that I would share about our Nazareth House Chapter in LaGrange, Georgia by posting it on this blog by today, Saturday November 15th. My intentions are for you to get to know the various NHA Chapters around the USA and the work that they do. Over the past few weeks we’ve been introducing the NHA members living in Sierra Leone at St. Laurence House….it is now time to get to know those in the United States.

During Fr. Seraphim and my visit this week, we had a most enjoyable and wonderful time, celebrating friendship and the work of Nazareth House. This NHA Chapter in LaGrange/West Point Georgia is active in many aspects, Sammy D’s being one, St. Andrew’s Parish in West Point, Georgia, another and the group pictured below the other component of NHA LaGrange. All headed up by our beloved friend and priest, Fr. Bob Haux.

We began the LaGrange event at Sammy D’s New York Pizza. Sammy D’s New York Pizza in LaGrange Georgia is a splendid Italian Restaurant that I highly recommend, even if you don’t live in the area, its worth the travel. Sammy D’s is a supporter of the work of Nazareth House and even has a write-up about us on the menu. Sammy is a fabulous cook with a heart of gold.

Fr. Bob who creates some of the fantastic dishes at Sammy D’s has his own parking spot.

The LaGrange NHA gang gathered at Sammy D’s. It was a wonderful time and we enjoyed each other’s company and the food was tremendous.

Jack and Suzanne Ormsby (Jack is another excellent cook)

Brian and Jan Lockerbie

Vicki and Fr. Seraphim Hicks

Fr Seraphim and Jack Ormsby

The Lovely Mz Su

During our travel back to Louisville, Kentucky this afternoon, we received a call that Fr. Bob had dropped the body and had been found at home this morning. I have no words to convey the heavy loss we are feeling as well as many, many others who have been blessed to have known Fr. Bob. He is one of those rare individuals with a giant heart, an attentive priest, a most trusted friend. This love transcends boundaries and borders as evidenced in his care, concern and love for St. Laurence House in Sierra Leone. NHA gives our utmost sympathy to his wife Su and his dear parishioners and friends from all around the globe.

We will greatly miss you my friend, We love you and may you rest in Peace.

Possible lead on new compound

This house/compound is currently available for purchase at $250,000. Fr. Seraphim and I have been in this facility and confirmed that it is well built, fully equipped for our needs and in the exact location that we are looking to be in. It is strategically located in the midst of city among the poor.

The structure is adequate for housing our staff, storing our humanitarian aid supplies & food/rice for distribution and there is extra room for accommodating guest who come from overseas to learn and experience first hand mission field experience. This compound will allow us to establish Lazarus House (home for terminally ill). It has everything we need, it is built for saftey.

An elementary school is across the street. Downtown Freetown is easily accessible.

The owner is out of town currently and will contact me again in a few weeks. This is the best we’ve found in a long time.

Housing prices are high in Freetown. This is an average and fair price for such a place. Most compounds are bought by foreigners, government or/and NGO’s who have the money to pay the high prices. We are not a large corporation and every penny we have goes to benefit the needy in Sierra Leone. We have no reserves. We must raise the funds to buy this compound.

It will take all of us to spread the word, raise the funds to buy this or any compound. We CAN do it. All of you involved in Nazareth House are very creative and we can bring to life ways to bring this to reality.

What you are doing – what we all are doing in Sierra Leone – under the name of Nazareth House is a good work. It is making a huge difference in many lives. The more people we invite in to share in this great experience of breathing a chance into many lives the quicker we can reach this goal. Don’t leave your friends, family, loved ones out of this wonderful endeavour. Share the love.

March 2009, our staff is out on the streets. We have received our notice to vacate at that time. A humanitarian aid organization such as ours must have a center of operations. Without it, our work is in jeopardy.

More photos coming… James will be getting better pictures soon.
